San Francisco

Josh and I had been talking for months of taking a trip to celebrate our 30th birthdays this year.  After much back-and-forth, we decided it wasn't the right time.  But then we changed our minds.  Like 2 weeks ago! We bought last minute tickets to San Francisco and rented a cute little studio in the Marina district near the bay.  3 nights!  Some may think we're crazy, and maybe we are, but we're so glad we did it. It was a perfect weekend together. My kind and very brave mother stayed with the kids.  Nora is still nursing a few times a day and getting up at least once in the night, but she did perfectly. In fact, probably better for grandma than me. I brought along the pump so it wouldn't be an abrupt weaning.  It helped that she's doing really well with eating what everyone else is eating and drinking plenty of the raw cow's milk we've been getting from a local farm.

We squeezed a lot in over the weekend.  Lots of fun memories made.  Not enough pictures, of course.  Never enough pictures.

We went out to dinner and celebrated Josh's birthday with mom and the kids the night before we left.  Look at Nora's adorable face!

We hadn't seen our good friends Scott and Kristi Tamayo in years.  Our closest Hawaii friends.  They've lived in the Bay Area for several years now, so met up with us for dinner on Friday, Josh's actual birthday.

It was so relaxing. Lazy mornings.  Lots and lots of eating.  Basically doing whatever we pleased was the highlight of the trip.  Miles of walking, literally. And the food!  Did I mention the food? Yum. Oh, and fantastic people watching too.

Huffing and puffing up Lombard Street.  I thought all the steep hills were fun.  Josh didn't have the same opinion of them.

Adam lives just outside the city so he met us Sunday night for dinner and sightseeing.

Apparently I had an issue with my eyes in pictures.  Or maybe it was the ice cream coma.  Good thing vacation calories don't count!! And it's funny Ben and Jerry's is on the corner of Haight and Ashbury.

We ended up renting a car and were glad we did.  Our little apartment included parking, so we were free to just drive when we wanted.  We explored a bit of Marin County on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge (which celebrated its 75th anniversary on Sunday).  We loved the little town of Mill Valley.  And we drove to a few beaches and around Golden Gate Park.  Such a beautiful area. Glad we got at least one good picture of us together!

The boys asked us to take pictures of everything we did and saw.  Here's a sampling.

Wow, Dana! You are brave! I can't imagine Kieran doing well for anyone overnight even a few months into the future. Yay for a "marriage enrichment" weekend! And double yay for your mom! Love that you're getting raw milk! We haven't gotten that since we moved off base.
